My story began the day I was born…no I’m kidding…my life as I know it began the day I was born but my story as a writer began when I asked my mother to sit down with a pencil and paper and write down a poem I had thought up. At 7 years old it was naturally a silly poem, if I remember correctly it was something about my grandfather, Sam and brother, Ulysses tumbling down a hill together.
This was not the start of it. I remember only a bit about the other little story ideas I used to imagine about in my three and four year old mind. I often scribbled them down in a nonsense language that no one cold read. I later realized that they were just scribbles and while I will probably never recall what I had tried to write about, I’m sure they were tales of adventure and unicorns.
Truthfully, I had little interest in poetry until 5th grade when my mother introduced me to one version of a poem titled, “John Henry, John Henry.”
My writing of poetry began before I could write, but my appreciation of it has long since improved.
Here are the poems that I have gathered from the depths of my mind so I could share snippets of my imagination with you.
Enjoy,
Ann Crystal
